Trip Lee has joined himself to the Cross Missions Conference. I am excited about what this conference represents. The conference is geared toward the next generation of missionaries. I pray that God will use the Cross Conference to raise up an army of new Gospel Centered students to give their lives to the cause of the Kingdom. Check it out here! http://crosscon.com/
All right Here we Go!
Why did we listen?
Come on man! Have you heard this yet? If you love CHH, then you have to listen to anything that Lecrae is putting out. I don't care if you like him or not, you have to check out what he is doing. He is just that big of a pillar right now in CHH..... PLUS....IT IS FREE!
Why you should too:
Regardless of whether Lecrae wants to be called Christian Hip Hop or not, he has become a major voice in a generation of believers who do not want to just sit and let the world walk all over Christians anymore. He has rallied young believers from around the world to stand up and be unashamed for the Gospel. And now he is leading those who will follow him into a new world of reaching out to those who need the Gospel the most.
One Summer I attended a summer long discipleship training. Every Saturday we would do evangelism. Several students would get paired with one leader and we would go and seek out people to share the Gospel with. There was one leader that none of the student liked to go with. His M.O. was to ask you "Do you see anyone who intimidates you?" And when you said yes, he would make a B-Line for those people and ask you to start a conversation. He stretched us to where we were most uncomfortable, and took us where we may not have wanted to go; for the sake of the Gospel.
This is what Lecrae is doing. He is stretching people to a place where they may not want to go. For the sake of the Gospel he is going places that other are not comfortable and seeking the lost there. Whether you agree with this method or not, Lecrae is following the command of Christ and taking the Gospel to uncharted territory. Pray for him.
As far as the music?
More of what we have come to expect from Lecrae. His beats are top notch and his flow is crazy! Every song is memorable and the entire album is quality. If you don't have it, go get it!
It seems Lecrae is finding his groove in the new territory. This Mixtape does not come off as preachy, but also does not water down the message of Hope in Christ.
"Believe" is a song that calls us to examine what God has been doing in the movement that He has given Lecrae. To the churched ear Lecrae is reminding people that while they were busy debating the finer point of methods to share the Gospel, God has been moving people through the Music that Lecrae and Reach have been dropping. To the unchurched ear Lecrae is saying, look at my life and tell me God isn't real.
"What would it take to make you believe, more fire from the sky? another part in the sea? The honest truth is you aint got the power to see, let me take you on this journey."
"Misconception pt 2": The W.L.A.K. crew jumped on this record and killed it. Anytime Christon Gray does a hook, it sounds so professional. Lecrae holds his own with some of the best in CHH and the song is a great reminder that it is a misconception to think that believers are any better than any one else.
"Were flawless and with think we better, its official, got it all together. We dont want em getting the wrong impression, cause that aint real thats a misconception. Man will struggle, only Jesus kept us. And we still fall, man its hard to get up. We dont want em getting the wrong impression, this is real, that's a misconception."
"Was it Worth It?": Great question to a generation of absent fathers. Powerful song, with a powerful message. Derek Minor kills his part and Lecrae writes an emotional verse.
"Inherited some pain and a bunch of empty memories, wishing that he picked me up from elementary. I wish he could have seen me on my graduation, taught me to raise a son and tell me congratulations...Man"
"My Whole Life Changed": This song is my personal favorite song on the album. The beat is crazy and the song tells of the change that God has done in Lecrae. Some people may not like this song, but this song is bold and proud of what God has done in his life. I loved it. Oh yeah, and I thought the hook was catchy.
"Maybe one day, someday you'll give you life up to Jesus. Instead of giving your life up to pieces that gonna to rust and fade when you see some.---Lets just say I saw the light, lets just say I heard the truth, lets just say I aint the same no more, Im out here looking new. Lets just say I left the game take my jersey I retire, lets just say I met the King, put me in Im on fire....My whole life changed"
This is the same old Lecrae, just musically getting better and better and taking a new approach to reaching people. You may not be comfortable with it, and that's ok, but Lecrae be puttin in work...don't hate on that.
